Throughout the Playa del
Carmen area of Mexico exist these spectacular
marvels of nature. Carved through the
millennia by subterranean rivers that flow
beneath the limestone shelf that is the Riviera
Maya, stalactites and stalagmites take on
dramatic and amazing formations, both above the
water level, and even more spectacularly, below
it.
Imagine scuba diving through
the cenotes (underground caverns) of Playa del
Carmen, making your way through the formations,
like a scene out of Lord of the Rings!
The cenotes are world-famous, and have been
brought to life in the IMAX film "Journey
into Amazing Caves" and many documentaries. Quite a different experience, and one that can
only be had here in Playa del Carmen.
