Sian Kaan is a wildlife haven
without equal in Mexico. It encompasses 1.6
million acres of natural environment, and it's vast
diversity of wildlife has earned it a declaration
as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The incredible
ecosystem is home to over 350 species of birds and
over 100 species of mammals, many endemic to this
region of Mexico. Dolphins, jaguars, crocodiles,
ocelots, sea turtles and manatees are just a few
of the rare species to call this area home.
This tour will take you deep inside the reserve.
After a stop at the park information
center, where you'll listen to a great orientation
of the park from your tour guides, you'll drive
on to the small fishing village of Punta Allen,
where you will have a snack, place your food order
at a beach restaurant, and board a small boat to
embark on your boat tour of the mangrove-lined waterways,
spotting and identifying birds and other wildlife.
Your first stop will be at the
Natural Pool, home to crystal-clear waters, a white
sand bottom and incredible natural beauty.
Here we can relax, swim, and take great photos.
The boat continues to Cayo Culebras, where we'll
search for dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, sea
stars, pelicans, ibis, spoonbills, hawks, cormorants,
and other animals.
Next we'll snorkel at one of
the most beautiful and colorful coral reefs, seeing
all types of tropical fish, and maybe lobsters or
barracudas. After snorkeling, we'll return
to the beach restaurant to enjoy our hot-cooked
lunch and have time to relax at the beach before
heading for home. A real off-the-beaten-track
experience in Playa del Carmen!
