A birdwatching paradise...the
Rio Lagartos Biosphere is home to over 375 different
species of birds, and is best known for it's vast
flocks of beautiful pink flamingos. This off-the-beaten-track
tour will take you to the far reaches of the Yucatan
Peninsula to see these amazing creatures, and perhaps
some of the other endemic wildlife here as well.
Take a boat tour through the
mangrove-lined waterways as your naturalist guide
explains to you the flora and fauna of the region,
what makes it special, and helps you identify birds
and wildlife. Follow the tour as it takes
you further into local Mayan life, as you visit
the colonial Mayan town of Tizimin, and see it's
cathedral, town square and market before enjoying
a hot-cooked meal of grilled seafood at a local
restaurant.
The tour continues to the famous
salt baths, where the Mayans have performed cleansing
rituals for centuries. Here you'll have a
chance to bathe in these unique and healing salt
springs, where you can float without effort - then
top off the cleansing ritual with a dip in the cool
waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
