CHICHEN ITZA EXCURSIONS FAQ's

Q: HOW FAR IS IT FROM PLAYA DEL CARMEN TO CHICHEN ITZA? ITZA?
A: It is about 2.5 hours from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza.

Q: WHAT IS THE BEST CHICHEN ITZA TOUR FROM PLAYA DEL CARMEN?
A: Our Chichen Itza Exclusive tour is our favorite. It has the best restaurant, the nicest bus, breakfast and drinks on the bus, just overall the nicest experience and best value. Classic is the basic tour, gets you there for the least amount of money and you can always bring your own drinks or snacks on the bus. Drinks at the restaurant aren't included on that tour though, nor the tourist tax at Chichen Itza. Plus adds drinks at lunch and on the bus and a box lunch. Exclusive has more drinks including beer, a visit to Valladolid and a better restaurant, and includes the tax. Private is a good option for groups or those who want to get there before the buses.

Q: IS CHICHEN ITZA GOOD FOR KIDS?
A: We honestly don't recommend Chichen Itza for kids because it's a long drive and a long day, only to spend the day looking at rocks that they don't understand the significance of.

For families we would rather recommend a tour like Tulum & Xel Ha where you get to see the Mayan Ruins and learn about Mayan Culture, with a short drive and a short tour, followed by an afternoon at Xel-Ha where the kids can swim, or a tour like Tulum Xtreme where you get to see Tulum but then you go snorkeling and zip lining. Something for you, something for them.

That said, our Chichen Itza tours are open to kids of all ages, and do include a visit to a cenote where they can swim, they will enjoy that. Remember to download a couple movies to their iPad and bring a phone charger for the bus ride so they aren't bored.

Q: CAN WE JUST DRIVE OURSELVES FROM PLAYA DEL CARMEN TO CHICHEN ITZA?
A: That is an option, but we would recommend a tour instead. It's a long drive, about 6 hours round-trip, so we would rather let someone else do the driving. For Chichen Itza, we like the bus tours where you can sleep in comfort along the way or watch movies on your phone. If you're really against a group tour, we offer a private tour for you.

Q: IS CHICHEN ITZA WORTH IT?
A: Yes. It is a Wonder of the World for a reason, and how often do you get to see a Wonder of the World? It is best explored with a guide who can share with you all the amazing things about it and the Mayan World. You get to see other things too like Cenotes and the colonial town of Valladolid.

Q: I SAW SOME SUPER CHEAP CHICHEN ITZA TOURS ON ANOTHER SITE?
A: All those cheap Chichen Itza excursions don't include the entrance fees, the taxes, or anything else you need to have a great experience. You have to pay it when you get there by yourself, so it's not actually cheap at all, just looks cheap online. It's a trick to get people to book only to find out later that they have to pay, pay, pay when they get there. We include most or all of these fees and taxes in our prices so you really know what it will cost, and can relax and enjoy your experience. Check our reviews, our customers are happy with their choice, and you will be too.

Q: WHAT IS THE BEST MAYAN RUINS TO VISIT?
A: If you are staying in Playa del Carmen, and only have time to see one ruins site, Chichen Itza should be it.  It is the only ruins site in the area to be a "wonder of the world" and a UNESCO Heritage Site.  It is the most impressive ruins site in the area, and the most famous.  The other sites are great too, but there is only one Chichen Itza.
