Q: WHAT IS SPECIAL OR UNIQUE
ABOUT THE COBA MAYAN RUINS?
A: Coba is the only Mayan Ruins site in the area
to be set in the jungle, which gives it a mystical "Indiana
Jones" feel. You can rent rickshaws or bicycles to
get around the ruins site, which is unique. Also nice is that Coba
is less touristy than Tulum or Chichen Itza. However,
it can get muggy in the summer months, so not recommended
for people who have difficulty breathing.
Q: WHAT IS THE BEST TOUR TO COBA FROM PLAYA DEL CARMEN?
A: If you have kids with you, Coba & Xel-Ha and Coba & Sea Turtles are great options that offer some swimming and water adventure which is a nice trade-off for the kids, and a nice variety for you if you're into water activities. Something for you, something for them. Tulum & Coba is a great deal if you want to see both Mayan Ruins sites in a single day. Private Tours are great for cruise passengers, groups, or anyone who wants to make their own itinerary.
Q: CAN YOU CLIMB THE COBA RUINS?
A: No. Coba ruins have been closed to climbing since the pandemic. This is still "temporary" but it's been 4 years, so... But it's still a very worthwhile excursion. If you want to climb Mayan Ruins, Ek Balam is open for climbing.
Q: I'M ON A CRUISE SHIP - CAN
I DO THESE TOURS?
A: You'll need to do the Private Coba Express - the
other tours are too long for you to do on a cruise stop.
Q: HOW FAR IS IT FROM PLAYA DEL CARMEN TO COBA?
A: Coba is about a 1 hour and 45 Minute drive from
Playa del Carmen.
